for everyone

I know....I know. You've probably all seen this by now, but it just makes me laugh. And we all need that, don't we?

In keeping with yesterday's sort-of theme of "What the hell are you talking about???"....I give you one of our nation's candidates for Miss Teen U.S.A.....

Blog EntryNaNoWriMo UpdateNov 27, '06 12:03 AM
for everyone

Howdy folks.  Well, the month of November is almost complete.  My novel, alas, is not.  Today, I was at a mere 12,674 words of the 50,000 needed.

But never fear!  I will continue writing this story into the next few months.  I am very happy with the story progression, and I’m just glad I have finally worked on a very old idea.   I uploaded another excerpt today, and I’ll try and make a good effort on my word count in the next couple of days.

NaNoWriMo was a good push for me to write more in my spare time.  I sometimes feel like I don’t have a very good fiction “voice.”  Then I forget how much I just like to participate in fiction writing, for the creative side of it.  I used to spend much more time engaging my creative brain, and I think I just need to re-train it.  This has been a fun month to write, and I’m glad I signed up.

Next year, 50,000!!

Blog EntryTake the Geography Challenge!Aug 28, '07 12:12 AM
for everyone

Ok folks,

In the spirit of "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones".....or however that goes, I am offering a geography challenge!

After chuckling over the previous blog entry, I thought to myself "Gee.....do I know how to find the US on a map?"

ok....just kidding. I didn't think that. Although I did think it was funny that Miss South Carolina, given the chance to redeem herself on the Today Show (or some morning show), made a point to tell everyone in the room that she, and all her friends, absolutely knew how to the find the United States on a map.

Tee hee. The fun just continues.

Anyway! It's been many many years since I was geography major in college. Switched programs before I graduated, but geography was fun for a while. So, I thought - I wonder how good, or bad, my skills are.

And voila! I found http://www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/index.html

This fun little site offers several geography quizzes. Can you find these places on a map???? It gives you 3 chances to guess, then it gives you a score.

I took 6 tests folks. It was pretty fun. And enlightening. Try it out. Here are my scores:

United States 129/150 (I know my states pretty well)

Europe 85/138

Asia 52/96

Africa 37/162 (abysmal score)

South America 31/39

World 33/36 (should have been perfect, but hard to tell the ocean boundaries)

So, your challenge, my friends, is to try at least one of these tests and report back. Good luck!
